American made radios tend to be slightly larger than their Japanese counterparts. Other collectible American-made radios are from RCA, G.E., Admiral, Motorola, Magnavox, Philco, Raytheon, Arvin, Sylvania and Emerson etc. An early handwired 500 will fetch more money than the later versions. If you’re into high performance you may want to consider this one. It has a large oval speaker and is considered to be the best sounding/performing portable transistor radio ever. The first Royal 500 was hand wired and had a metal chassis! The fifth generation Zenith 500 was the 500H. The TR-1 and TR-1G used an odd 22.5 volt battery which can be found in limited quantities today but are pricey.Įarly Zenith radios like the Royal 500 series are also worthy of having in a collection. I found a red TR-1 at a flea market two years ago and only paid $100. It may be a few years until you find one but think of the fun you’ll have searching and the money you’ll save. If you really want to find a great deal on a Regency TR-1 I suggest frequenting your local flea markets, garage sales and antique markets. These later examples command top dollar on Ebay. The more basic ivory and grey cabinets will fetch less money than the “mandarin” red and black.įor a brief period TR-1s were released in very attractive pearlescent pink and light blue colors as well as swirled, jade green and mahogany. They can be found on Ebay ranging in price from $300 to $1000 depending on color. As a transistor radio collector I think it’s important to have one example of this historic radio in your collection. During times of emergencies, all stations except the CONELRAD stations at 6 AM would cease operations (note that some Japanese radios made by Sharp and Hitachi during the late 50’s left out the CD marks).Īmerican companies were the first out of the solid-state-radio gate with the release of the Regency TR-1 on (it sold well into 19 as the re-designed TR-1G and TR-4). CONELRAD established two civil defense frequencies, 6 kilohertz. To counteract the potential for a Russian air attack on North America the US Government enacted the CONELRAD program, which stood for CONtrol of ELectromagnetic RADiation. CD stood for Civil Defense and was taken very seriously in the 50’s and 60’s due to the communist “red scare.” These are CD marks, which appeared on all radios manufactured or sold in the U.S. One easy way to date a transistor radio to this period is to look for small triangles or circles between the 6 & 7 and the 12 & 16 on the dial. Generally, the most collectable and historic transistor radios are those made in Japan from 1956 to 1963 and America from 1955-60. There are a few exceptions which I will talk about shortly. What we’ve realized over the years is that these radios are not as rare or scarce as once thought. They predate eBay and the quoted prices are often higher than present day values. Most of the price guides on the market were released well over ten years ago during the first “wave” of transistor radio collecting. I suggest spending some time on the internet or scanning the pages of the few transistor radio price guides to research makes and models. Have fun and buy radios that appeal to your personal tastes. Sure, you’ll want some key radios but make sure you collect what you like. Although the main focus of this article is to broaden your knowledge base, make sure you don’t just collect for investment or get caught up in only possessing what are considered “must haves”. By your fourth radio you will be considered a “collector” and will be hooked! There will be no turning back from the appeal of these mid-century, technical and artistic marvels.īefore spending too much money I recommend you take some time, do your homework and educate yourself. Well, be warned! If you buy one transistor radio it will most likely grow to two, then three. Perhaps you recently saw a picture of a cool looking pocket radio from the early 1960’s and were reminded of your carefree, youthful days? Maybe it was the pastel colors or atomic aged designs that caught your eye? Or the chrome highlights that attracted your attention? Nonetheless, you find yourself actively seeking them out at the local flea market or surfing eBay for a good deal. Michael Jack, whose personal Flickr website is a member of our Hall of Fame, is a collector of vintage transistor radios. 12/24/2023 0 Comments Revearse metal spike dog collarAllow a little room for comfort and then choose then match this measurement with the sizes in the table above. Take a tape measure and run it around your dog's neck. The fastening clip on the collar is very strong and is kept in place with heavily sewn leather and two studs on either side,īefore you order please do the following:ġ. The spikes are not sharp to the touch and have rounded ends. The spikes and studs are metal and compliment the collar beautifully. This leather studded dog collar is made from a thick layer of genuine leather and a thinner layer of soft, padded and tough material next to the dog's fur/skin for a comfortable fit. Please do not make the collar too tight for your dog as this can be uncomfortable and cause injury. to test, place your little finger in the gap left around the neck and if there is just a slight pinch then the collar fits correctly. Tuck the end of the collar into the retainers and you are done. You can then select the hole that still gives your dog room around the neck. To fit, just place the leather studded dog collar around your dog's neck. Please measure your dog before ordering a spiked and studded collar. If your dog is normally in a small collar it does not necessarily mean that a small collar in this style will fit. Remember, not all dog collars are sized in the same way. Please make sure that you follow the size guide below and measure your dog's neck before ordering. There was plenty of room left on the collar to adjust and it was a very nice fit. Features: Stainless steel equipment and durable nylon help this collar stand up to your dog’s super strength. The easy-release seat-belt-style buckle makes life easier by letting you take the collar off with the simple press of a button. Therefore, we allowed 2-3 cms to give him a little more comfort. He is 9-months old with a 25 cm neck when the tape is tight. Give your dog a few minutes to get used to the feel of the choke chain. The brown collar (shown in image gallery) is modelled beautifully by the handsome Whippet Bruce and it is the small size. If this is the first time your dog is wearing a choke chain, do not attach the leash soon after putting on the chain. Now you can attach the leash to the live ring. If the chain slides to your dog’s chest, it is too big. This position is more sensitive, and your dog will respond quickly to mild pressure. Unlike traditional collars, choke chains do not sit at a dog’s neck. The orientation is wrong if the chain doesn’t slack when you release it. The chain should momentarily tighten and then slack. If orienting the chain still seems confusing, try slipping the choke chain over your fist. The letter “P” loop section should always be over the dog’s head, with the straight part on top of its neck. You must first decide which side your dog will be walking on, your right side or your left. When your dog tries to back out of the martingale, the collar tightens around their neck. The leash attaches to a ring on this loop. A separate loop of material passes through the two rings. The martingale consists of a length of material with a metal ring at each end. Step 2: Fitting the Choke Collar on Your Dog A martingale collar is a must-have for anxious and fearful dogs. This would be short lived, however, as Cartoon Network and Boomerang ceased airing Warner Bros. There has been some success in returning these cartoons to the public in 1999 all Speedy Gonzales cartoons were made unavailable because of their alleged stereotyping of Mexicans, but because the level of stereotyping was minor compared to the World War II era cartoons as well as the protests of many Hispanics who said they were not offended and fondly remembered Speedy Gonzales cartoons from their youth, these shorts were made available for broadcast again in 2002. Eleven cartoons that prominently featured stereotypical black characters (and a few passing jokes about Japanese people, as was the case with Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs and Jungle Jitters) were withdrawn from distribution in 1968 and are known as the Censored Eleven. because of the racial stereotypes of African-Americans, Jews (especially in the earlier cartoons, despite the fact that all four of the Warner brothers were Jewish), Japanese, Chinese, and Germans (especially during WWII, as in Tokio Jokio) included in some of the cartoons. I suppose I will enjoy them as I get them thenĪ handful of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts are no longer aired on American television nor are they available for sale by Warner Bros. That is why I mention that while they may be "completely unedited" that doesn't indicate that the series is complete. Cinescopes were often used for syndicated and national broadcasts, especially when the longhaul video transmission circuits ran by Bell were already busy.īy the time they started reformatting the original looney tunes, Silly Symphonies, and other cartoon series to TV, the times had already started changing and the most abrasive episodes were simply not transferred to the new medium. Of course with most live broadcasts there was no recording of the show, it was a watch it now, or never see it event. In the early days most shows were live, or cinescope. This is why there is so little video available of the early days of live TV. Until the sixties video tape was not generally available, so they had to broadcast from film, which left no copy with the affiliate or cinescope which was a very poor copy, and were often thrown away after broadcast, due to the poor quality. The film material they used would often decay over time, especially if not stored in ideal conditions, and cartoons weren't on the top of the "must preserve" list. Part of the problem is that on some of the cartoons there are lots of episodes that just don't exist anymore. What that means is that the episodes included are intact as they were originally animated, however that doesn't mean that all episodes are included in the collection. Also, there are warning with htem that would make me inclined to believe that they are the real deal.Ĭompletely unedited and complete are two different things. This is what is claimed, that the cartoons are completely restorted from archives with history and commentary as well. Chances are the episodes that many of us remember from our your had already been edited from their original content and format, and often times dialog and plots were changed to make the material more palatable. Oddly enough in some East European markets they still release the racist reels.Īlso keep in mind that these cartoons were edited and reedited many times throughout the years, until the late fifties they were made for Movie theaters, then as TV picked up popularity they were reformatted and edited for that outlet. THe DVD sets I got are completely uncut and original.īut are they complete? There are a lot of these cartoons that are no longer released in any format in the North American market. I do believe the recent dvd sets have had some eps edited too. Theres a dozen or so looney toons/merry melodies eps that are 'banned' and not included in any sets or reaired. 12/24/2023 0 Comments Southwest airlines movies listTune in to our Kids Room, where you’ll find a fun selection of movies and TV for the young and young at heart.
